"We'll Carry On" Bracelet Auction for Charity [Deadline: March 31st]

[An update of the original post, since the bracelet didn’t sell during the first auction and I have relisted it. Here’s hoping I didn’t create a tear in the fabric of space-time by trying to edit this instead of making an entirely new one. -GA]

Yep! Another auction. So…maybe pink isn’t really your color. Or maybe the writing on the first bracelet didn’t really mesh well with the idea of it being available for charity. Both of these things are understandable. I also did say I was going to make more bracelets, no? So here is the second.

Regardless of how you feel about The Black Parade, it’s hard to deny the power of hope and positivity in the phrase “We’ll Carry On”, which anyone familiar with the song will recognize as being from the chorus of “Welcome to the Black Parade”. In trying times, sometimes all you can do is press onward and forward. With these auctions, and with your help, I want to try and make that trek back to normalcy and stability a little bit shorter and easier.

Auction Details:

  • Starting bid is $10.00 USD.
  • As with the Zero Percent bracelet, I will ship pretty much anywhere.
  • 100% of the proceeds are going directly to Global Giving Works’s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.
  • Clasp-to-clasp, it’s about the same length as the Zero Percent bracelet, so about 8 inches. (For the life of me, I can’t seem to make a seven-inch bracelet, which I’m beginning to think is the Muse making sure I don’t think about keeping it.)
  • Bracelet is composed of glass beads, thread, and the clasps are strung on with wire on either end.
  • As I mentioned before, the phrase comes from the chorus of “Welcome to the Black Parade” from Welcome to the Black Parade (which is why the color scheme is black, shiny clear, and gold), but I don’t see how you have to be an MCR fan to appreciate the message.

How You Can Help:

While bidding on the bracelet is the obvious one, there are other ways you can help, such as getting the word out. For that, there are various ways:

  • Reblog this post.
  • Post a link to this post (or the actual auction page) on Facebook, non-Tumblr blogs, forums, Reddit, etc.
  • Twitter! To save space, use the shortened URL for this bid: http://r.ebay.com/1rbfdY.
  • If I had fliers, I’d leave it here for you to print, but that might be a bit much. XD

You have until March 31st to make a bid or spread the word, and remember, every little bit counts!

Hey, LJ folks—

inkanddestroy:

I have a bid up at help_japan!  Bidding starts at $10 for some sweet, sweet art.

The lovely Kellie (whose work can be seen here) also has a bid up there!

I meant to do a proper blog post when I first heard about this LiveJournal artist auction, but look, there’s even more incentive for you guys to go check it out! What’s not to love about this? Seriously. Go, go, go! You have until March 26th, I believe, for the whole shebang.

"Zero Percent" Bracelet Auction for Charity.

For those who saw yesterday’s post on the “Zero Percent” bracelet and what I intended to do with it, the charity auction is now live! Click the link, reblog this post, spread the word. If you’re on Twitter, you can use http://bit.ly/zeroauction instead of that Big McLargeHuge thing of an auction page URL.

For those who don’t regularly follow the blog, here are the basics:

  • 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to AmeriCares Foundation, Inc. I picked them because my research pulled up that 98% of the money they take in goes towards their various relief programs. Perhaps for the next one, I’ll pick another (like Global Giving or Hands on Tokyo, each of which I’ve just been made aware).
  • You have until March 20th to make a bid. Please make sure you’re serious about it, too. Don’t flake. That’s not cool.
  • The bracelet is handmade; I knocked it out over the course of a day, more or less, on a bead loom.
  • From clasp to clasp, the bracelet measures eight inches.
  • For Non-MCR Persons: The phrase is the title of a B-Side from Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. It also comes from this tweet. Trust me. The person in your life who is a fan (and a fan of the current era) will more than likely recognize the reference. Get it as a gift and give the gift of charity in one sweep!
  • I have the auction set so that shipping price is relative to where you live. I know that means in some places it might be astronomical, but I wanted this to be as streamlined as possible. The point is, I’ll ship pretty much anywhere.
  • Yes, I am planning to make at least two more bracelets in different colors/with different wording.
  • You can read about the process here—oh, and if you want to know what it looks like before you click the auction link:

I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out how best to say this, and it might just be that I’m tired, but I can’t think of anything eloquent enough. However, I feel like if I wait for eloquence to catch up, I’ll lose my nerve and then I’ll feel like I’ve missed a chance to do as I’ve been saying in terms of helping.

Alright. So. You see that bracelet up there? It’s pretty, right? (Least, I should hope you think it’s pretty.) Tomorrow, I’m putting this bracelet up for auction through eBay’s Giving Works program, with the starting bid at $10.

Why am I telling you this? Because I have a goal.

That goal? To donate 100% of the earnings from said auction to AmeriCares in the hope that some (or all) of that money goes towards doing my little part to help relief efforts not just in Japan, but in all the places affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. (And yes, I’m already aware of the slight awkwardness inherent in auctioning a bracelet that says “Zero Percent” for charity. But I didn’t think about that while I was making it! I was thinking, “I’m gonna do my part to help people.” So, um, if you find your way here AmeriCares…good intentions! I have good intentions!) I’m also plotting to put other bracelets up on the auction block, but I’m not entirely sure what to put in terms of lettering. KILLJOY is definitely one I have patterned out already. DESTROYA and SAVE YOURSELF, I’ll save for selling on Etsy, since I don’t want to risk offending anybody who doesn’t understand the references (even though I’ll explain these are MCR/Killjoys themed). Maybe I can do the four logos? They don’t look that hard…

But baby steps. I’m gonna start with this bracelet and see how/where it goes. You can see better pictures of the bracelet here, and if you have any questions please leave them in the comments section.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous about this. But my intentions are good and I’m hoping this all goes off without a hitch.

Peace Love Hope: A Fan-Driven Initiative to Prevent Suicide

Taking a brief moment from working on the first part of the “Sing” review to pass this along. They’re just getting started, but I found this on Twitter last night by way of @RosieReaper and I was both intrigued and moved to tell more people. From the About page:

In 2010, a member of the MCRmy - a My Chemical Romance fan collective - decided to drive the power of the MCRmy towards making our world a better place. Inspired by the band’s lead vocalist - Gerard Way - who has suffered from addiction and depression, and by the band’s beautiful message of peace, love and hope, she began a movement within the MCRmy to support the wonderful organisations who address these issues and provide support for sufferers and their families worldwide.

PeaceLoveHope aims to raise funds for these wonderful charities through a range of events, in hopes to create a brighter future for not only this world, but the people who live, love and laugh within it.

There is also a Facebook page, which you can find here, and which has been added to the favorites of the Girl Automatic Facebook page. If you have any other questions about PLH, you can e-mail them at admin@astrozombies.net84.net.
