Help My Chemical Romance Help MississippiAs those of you who read the recent fan report from Atlanta know, My Chemical Romance generously donated a signed drum head to Brandi, the owner of My Chemical Freak, for her to auction for disaster relief in Mississippi. As her report reads:I am from the area in north Mississippi that was ravaged by the EF-5 tornado on April 27, 2011. Hundreds of people died, even more were injured and thousands are now without a home at all. The storm didn’t just mess up their homes, but it completely wiped them off the face of the earth. My town has spent the last few weeks working day and night trying to get help, food and shelter for our neighbors who survived the storm. When Brandi asked if she could auction the signed poster she got at the meet-and-greet, they did her one better and donated the above pictured drum head.It is being auctioned via Facebook; as, many who were interested in bidding could not use eBay, etc…

Please reblog to spread the word?

You guys know how I feel about charities. You also know how I feel about MCR. It’s like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of Awesome. Or something. (Don’t mind my analogies; I’m still processing last night. Just focus on the awesome charity going on.)

It takes a minute to read, a minute to reblog, consider this your good deed for the day.

petewentz-:

Both of my parents are disabled and I live on a fixed-income provided by the government. Recently we were told that, due to collection of back taxes, our house will be put up for auction on June 13th if we do not pay them off.

I thought that someone might be able to help us out a little bit, donate a few extra dollars so that my family and I don’t lose our home. Our goal is $1,200, but anything helps.

I’m also willing to do small barters for people wanting to donate; draw things, write fics, make signs, promote your blog, etc.

If you can’t donate, please at least reblog.

The Donate Button Is On My Blog

You’ll have to do a little bit of scrolling, but the donate button is on the sidebar under the music player.

Remember that spreading the word does just as much help as donating, since it means getting the message out to others who might be in a position to help financially.

Personally, it sounds like it might be time for another bracelet auction. What’s say you guys? Although I think I might theme the bracelet around Team Fortress 2 this time, since I’m just about to finish one that might be of interest to some people.

#SINGItForJapan

mychemicalspam:

officialmcrmy:

Dear MCRMY,

It’s time to call the MCRMY to arms. I mentioned last post that we would need your help. Now is the time. We’ve been working on an idea which will hopefully help raise money for the recovery effort in Japan. We would like you to know the idea was inspired by you, the fans.

After the news of the earthquake and tsunami spread, I did what most people did.  I stopped and stared at the TV.  I sat at the computer, constantly refreshing CNN in hopes of some good news. And I went to Twitter to see what people were saying. I noticed a hash-tag, “#SINGItForJapan,” where you kids were writing messages of hope, saying prayers and sending your condolences and well wishes to survivors. It moved me in a profound way.

A week later, after talking with the guys about what we could do, here we are. I’ve been working backstage and on planes to put together a special version of SING. Our plan is to release it with all proceeds going to Red Cross Japan. We also feel we need a video to share on Facebook and YouTube, so this is where you come in.

We’d like to send messages of hope to Japan from people all over the world. We’re asking for you to send video, pictures, drawings or written messages to the people of Japan. Go wherever your creativity and heart takes you.  It could be as simple as you holding up a sign with “#SINGItForJapan ” written on it, or anything else you can dream up.  From what we’ve seen on tour, we know you guys can dream bigger than we ever could.

Don’t be afraid to get your families involved.  If you are inspired to do something alone, that’s great too.  But we encourage you to get a big group of people from your community together.  We want Japan to know just how many people are behind them.  The one request we have is for you to somehow include where you’re from in your video, photo, or drawing. Using YouTube, Flickr, Twitpic, etc, upload your contribution. Remember to include the tag #SINGItForJapan. Then, send your submissions to us by filling out the form below.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to include everybody, but know that we will see everything, and your submission is meaningful and appreciated.

Thank you all for your help in this.

Speak soon.

This post brought me to tears. MCR is really special, and they always do their best to reach out to everyone and anyone in need.

Please contribute. Even if you can’t donate money to any of the charities providing aid, you can help more than you’ll ever know by sending your thoughts and good wishes to those suffering in Japan.

"We'll Carry On" Bracelet Auction for Charity [Deadline: March 31st]

[An update of the original post, since the bracelet didn’t sell during the first auction and I have relisted it. Here’s hoping I didn’t create a tear in the fabric of space-time by trying to edit this instead of making an entirely new one. -GA]

Yep! Another auction. So…maybe pink isn’t really your color. Or maybe the writing on the first bracelet didn’t really mesh well with the idea of it being available for charity. Both of these things are understandable. I also did say I was going to make more bracelets, no? So here is the second.

Regardless of how you feel about The Black Parade, it’s hard to deny the power of hope and positivity in the phrase “We’ll Carry On”, which anyone familiar with the song will recognize as being from the chorus of “Welcome to the Black Parade”. In trying times, sometimes all you can do is press onward and forward. With these auctions, and with your help, I want to try and make that trek back to normalcy and stability a little bit shorter and easier.

Auction Details:

  • Starting bid is $10.00 USD.
  • As with the Zero Percent bracelet, I will ship pretty much anywhere.
  • 100% of the proceeds are going directly to Global Giving Works’s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.
  • Clasp-to-clasp, it’s about the same length as the Zero Percent bracelet, so about 8 inches. (For the life of me, I can’t seem to make a seven-inch bracelet, which I’m beginning to think is the Muse making sure I don’t think about keeping it.)
  • Bracelet is composed of glass beads, thread, and the clasps are strung on with wire on either end.
  • As I mentioned before, the phrase comes from the chorus of “Welcome to the Black Parade” from Welcome to the Black Parade (which is why the color scheme is black, shiny clear, and gold), but I don’t see how you have to be an MCR fan to appreciate the message.

How You Can Help:

While bidding on the bracelet is the obvious one, there are other ways you can help, such as getting the word out. For that, there are various ways:

  • Reblog this post.
  • Post a link to this post (or the actual auction page) on Facebook, non-Tumblr blogs, forums, Reddit, etc.
  • Twitter! To save space, use the shortened URL for this bid: http://r.ebay.com/1rbfdY.
  • If I had fliers, I’d leave it here for you to print, but that might be a bit much. XD

You have until March 31st to make a bid or spread the word, and remember, every little bit counts!

Killjoys!
You all know about the terrible earthquake disaster and its consequences - more than 6.405 victims are reported and 10.259 persons missed. We cannot prevent anything - but we can help and not only with compassion. I made a charity project called ‘MCRmy for Japan’ - we need everyone who is able and want to give a little money.  We have already 160 €, but I know there can be more. If you are not able to donate, then just spread the message!  It’s a project on the german red cross site:
  http://tinyurl.com/4qhbwwz
But of course you can also donate from another country with the help of paypal. You can find the introduction for donating via paypal on the site.  I know we can make a difference!
For any question just write me at: http://twitter.com/BillyJaden
or mail me at: billyjaden@googlemail.com
Keep running, killjoys!

You know how I feel about charity efforts, guys. :3 Best of luck in your ventures, motorkids!

"Zero Percent" Bracelet Auction for Charity.

For those who saw yesterday’s post on the “Zero Percent” bracelet and what I intended to do with it, the charity auction is now live! Click the link, reblog this post, spread the word. If you’re on Twitter, you can use http://bit.ly/zeroauction instead of that Big McLargeHuge thing of an auction page URL.

For those who don’t regularly follow the blog, here are the basics:

  • 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to AmeriCares Foundation, Inc. I picked them because my research pulled up that 98% of the money they take in goes towards their various relief programs. Perhaps for the next one, I’ll pick another (like Global Giving or Hands on Tokyo, each of which I’ve just been made aware).
  • You have until March 20th to make a bid. Please make sure you’re serious about it, too. Don’t flake. That’s not cool.
  • The bracelet is handmade; I knocked it out over the course of a day, more or less, on a bead loom.
  • From clasp to clasp, the bracelet measures eight inches.
  • For Non-MCR Persons: The phrase is the title of a B-Side from Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. It also comes from this tweet. Trust me. The person in your life who is a fan (and a fan of the current era) will more than likely recognize the reference. Get it as a gift and give the gift of charity in one sweep!
  • I have the auction set so that shipping price is relative to where you live. I know that means in some places it might be astronomical, but I wanted this to be as streamlined as possible. The point is, I’ll ship pretty much anywhere.
  • Yes, I am planning to make at least two more bracelets in different colors/with different wording.
  • You can read about the process here—oh, and if you want to know what it looks like before you click the auction link:

March 12, 2011

I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out how best to say this, and it might just be that I’m tired, but I can’t think of anything eloquent enough. However, I feel like if I wait for eloquence to catch up, I’ll lose my nerve and then I’ll feel like I’ve missed a chance to do as I’ve been saying in terms of helping.

Alright. So. You see that bracelet up there? It’s pretty, right? (Least, I should hope you think it’s pretty.) Tomorrow, I’m putting this bracelet up for auction through eBay’s Giving Works program, with the starting bid at $10.

Why am I telling you this? Because I have a goal.

That goal? To donate 100% of the earnings from said auction to AmeriCares in the hope that some (or all) of that money goes towards doing my little part to help relief efforts not just in Japan, but in all the places affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. (And yes, I’m already aware of the slight awkwardness inherent in auctioning a bracelet that says “Zero Percent” for charity. But I didn’t think about that while I was making it! I was thinking, “I’m gonna do my part to help people.” So, um, if you find your way here AmeriCares…good intentions! I have good intentions!) I’m also plotting to put other bracelets up on the auction block, but I’m not entirely sure what to put in terms of lettering. KILLJOY is definitely one I have patterned out already. DESTROYA and SAVE YOURSELF, I’ll save for selling on Etsy, since I don’t want to risk offending anybody who doesn’t understand the references (even though I’ll explain these are MCR/Killjoys themed). Maybe I can do the four logos? They don’t look that hard…

But baby steps. I’m gonna start with this bracelet and see how/where it goes. You can see better pictures of the bracelet here, and if you have any questions please leave them in the comments section.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous about this. But my intentions are good and I’m hoping this all goes off without a hitch.

From Charity Navigator: "Japan Earthquake and Tsunami"

Much thanks to Miss Cassie for tweeting about this. Not only is it a tips list on how to donate without getting scammed, it also provides a list of organizations you can donate to in the sidebar. This is the list:

Take it and run with it, you guys. And if you really need more incentive than the kind fuzzy feeling of helping, remember that Girl Apocalypse is offering masks for those who show proof of donating to any organization focused on relief efforts for the quake/tsunami. I’m trying to figure out if there might be something I can do as well, maybe auction some Killjoys-themed bracelets? Would you guys be down for that? eBay apparently makes it possible to have the proceeds from earnings go directly to charity. I’m gonna look into it further.

I know none of this is directly related to Killjoys/Danger Days stuff, but sometimes you just have to know when to say “time out” and focus on what’s important, like lending a hand to those in need.

From Kerrang Radio: "Auction - Kerrang! Mug used by Gerard Way!"

I just finished posting about this by way of the satellite transmitter (along with a number of other articles) but I think it might be good to post this over here as well since it’s for charity.

Deadline is Friday 18th at 3pm, with money going to Kerrang! Radio’s Cash For Kids. I’m not gonna lie, if I had the carbons to spare, I’d put in a bid. But I’d wash the mug. And then I’d probably just end up using the mug to collect my pens, just as I’ve done with a Regretsy mug I got for my birthday and one of the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland mugs my wife gave me the Season of Giving before last. (I have another that she gave me that I actually use for tea because the Cheshire cat disappears when you add hot water to it and I am easily amused by things like that.)

Also? Junkpunks pointed this out in reference to the picture of Gerard drinking from the mug: “He didn’t even wash the eyeshadow off his face.”

Brb, being endlessly amused.
