I meant to do a proper blog post when I first heard about this LiveJournal artist auction, but look, there’s even more incentive for you guys to go check it out! What’s not to love about this? Seriously. Go, go, go! You have until March 26th, I believe, for the whole shebang.

For those who don’t regularly follow the blog, here are the basics:
I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out how best to say this, and it might just be that I’m tired, but I can’t think of anything eloquent enough. However, I feel like if I wait for eloquence to catch up, I’ll lose my nerve and then I’ll feel like I’ve missed a chance to do as I’ve been saying in terms of helping.
Alright. So. You see that bracelet up there? It’s pretty, right? (Least, I should hope you think it’s pretty.) Tomorrow, I’m putting this bracelet up for auction through eBay’s Giving Works program, with the starting bid at $10.
Why am I telling you this? Because I have a goal.
That goal? To donate 100% of the earnings from said auction to AmeriCares in the hope that some (or all) of that money goes towards doing my little part to help relief efforts not just in Japan, but in all the places affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. (And yes, I’m already aware of the slight awkwardness inherent in auctioning a bracelet that says “Zero Percent” for charity. But I didn’t think about that while I was making it! I was thinking, “I’m gonna do my part to help people.” So, um, if you find your way here AmeriCares…good intentions! I have good intentions!) I’m also plotting to put other bracelets up on the auction block, but I’m not entirely sure what to put in terms of lettering. KILLJOY is definitely one I have patterned out already. DESTROYA and SAVE YOURSELF, I’ll save for selling on Etsy, since I don’t want to risk offending anybody who doesn’t understand the references (even though I’ll explain these are MCR/Killjoys themed). Maybe I can do the four logos? They don’t look that hard…
But baby steps. I’m gonna start with this bracelet and see how/where it goes. You can see better pictures of the bracelet here, and if you have any questions please leave them in the comments section.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous about this. But my intentions are good and I’m hoping this all goes off without a hitch.

Much thanks to Miss Cassie for tweeting about this. Not only is it a tips list on how to donate without getting scammed, it also provides a list of organizations you can donate to in the sidebar. This is the list:

And if you really need more incentive than the kind fuzzy feeling of helping, remember that Girl Apocalypse is offering masks for those who show proof of donating to any organization focused on relief efforts for the quake/tsunami. I’m trying to figure out if there might be something I can do as well, maybe auction some Killjoys-themed bracelets? Would you guys be down for that? eBay apparently makes it possible to have the proceeds from earnings go directly to charity. I’m gonna look into it further.
I know none of this is directly related to Killjoys/Danger Days stuff, but sometimes you just have to know when to say “time out” and focus on what’s important, like lending a hand to those in need.
For the next week, if you can show me proof that you donated to the red cross or any relief organization in response to the disasters in Japan— any amount— I will make you a killjoys mask.

Now’s a good time as any to mobilize. It’s not just our fellow Killjoys that need us in any capacity we can manage; it’s their friends, their family, their neighbors—everybody affected by this horrible, horrible disaster. (And please send good thoughts out to our Agent in Japan, whom I seriously hope is in as safe as place as possible!) If you can’t directly donate, help us out by reblogging this post or just hers about the masks.
Remember that if you have family or friends there, Google has a person finder up and running.
The Red Cross has a feature of allowing you to donate $10 just by sending a text message. (They might also need blood to help the injured, so if you’re not afraid of needles or need an excuse to overcome that fear, this might be for you.) Remember that there’s also the Salvation Army that does disaster relief and you can donate to them monetarily or with items like blankets and clothes, etc. I haven’t yet been able to find if they’re doing anything specific for the quake/tsunami, but these links are, I suppose, a good start. If anyone knows of any organizations that are working directly with quake/tsunami relief that take donations in any capacity—money, clothes, food, blankets, anything—please let me know!
Hopefully in the coming days we can get a stable address for any service organization working on the ground in the affected areas, because I’m already thinking of busting out my sewing machine and attempting to make some pillows and stuffed animals as comfort objects.
